NASA's Mars Curiosity rover has measured a tenfold spike in methane, an organic chemical, in the atmosphere around it and detected other organic molecules in a rock-powder sample collected by the robotic laboratory’s drill.

火星で活動中のキュリオシティがメタンを検出した、という発表。生物起源かどうかはまだ不明。
去年の秋には、「見つからなかった」という発表があったけれど、今度は見つかったということらしい。
今年の夏のニュートンには、「火星の土壌を再現し、そこでメタン菌を培養したところ、2種類が生き残った」なんて記事もあったけれど、まだまだ研究が必要なんだろうな。一発で全部がきまるなんてことはないわけだ。
