Full Moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the Moon's orbit. It is an ellipse with one side (perigee) about 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other (apogee): diagram. Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon's orbit.

この大きさの変化は日食の時の皆既食／金環食の違いにもなって現れることになる。36万キロ〜41万キロの変化なので、大きいと言えば大きいかもしれない。なお、地球の半径が約6000キロなので、地平線近くに見える月より、天頂に見える月の方が6000キロほど近いことになるが、さすがにこの差を目で見て分かる人はいないだろう。
